Hardness is part of the product identity
TPU is a material family, not one universal formulation. Bambu’s 85A and 90A products are separately named grades and the manufacturer listing has different printer applicability. The A1 owner should read the Shore hardness on the actual product before applying a compatibility answer. A generic TPU spool cannot inherit the 90A result simply because its label says flexible, and a different manufacturer may publish its own printer and feeding recommendations.
A-series implications
The reviewed Bambu TPU listing states that TPU 85A is not compatible with A-series printers, while TPU 90A is listed for A-series printers with a recommended nozzle diameter starting at 0.4 mm. That statement concerns the Bambu-branded material described on the listing. It is not a universal physical impossibility claim about every 85A product or a promise that every A1 setup will produce a successful part. For an unlisted formulation, seek the filament maker’s direct guidance.
Feeder restrictions remain separate
The same product page excludes Bambu TPU 85A and 90A from AMS lite and other listed AMS systems, and lists AMS HT as compatible. For A1 use, a separately routed external spool is the documented conservative path reflected by the curated combinations here. An AMS-compatible special formulation may exist, but “TPU for AMS” is a different product identity and needs its own source. Do not override a feeder restriction based on a printer/material pairing.
Nozzle and spool checks
The source listing’s recommended nozzle begins at 0.4 mm for the applicable TPU 90A setup. Match the actual nozzle to the latest manufacturer note and avoid assuming smaller openings are covered. Also identify the spool product and dimensions: feeder guidance is not proof that a third-party reel fits. If the spool brand or dimensions are missing, the finder will show Not verified even when the named material itself is listed for the printer.
Buying checklist
Before purchasing flexible filament for an A1, confirm whether the product is 85A or 90A, whether it is Bambu or another brand, which route feeds it, and what nozzle is installed. Check whether the product page says AMS HT, AMS lite or another system is allowed. Then read current drying and print instructions. These checks prevent a common category error: transferring a conclusion about one TPU grade to another material, feeder, or model without evidence.

Before you buy
- Read the exact hardness and brand.
- Use external feed for the curated A-series TPU 90A setup.
- Do not treat TPU 85A and 90A as interchangeable.
- Verify nozzle and spool separately.
